New Covent Garden - Europe's Super Market

The historic backbone of London's five-a-day is moved from Central London to its new home in Nine Elms

Documentary 1976 19 mins

Overview

After over 300 years of providing Londoners with their five-a-day and helping Cockneys say it with flowers, the historic Covent Garden market closed in 1974. The film certainly makes a strong case for the transport and logistical nightmare the area had become, and goes into some detail about its new home in Nine Elms. The heavy hand and generous budget behind the film (check out the middle ages banquet) are evidence of the need to for a big PR push to overcome reservations about the change.
