Fourteen Acres of Green

Environmentalists wage war on the Greater London Council in this eye-opening account of a battle to save Hammersmith's open spaces.

Overview

Passions run high in this eye-opening educational film about the unsuccessful fight, in the late 1970s, to save St Paul's playing fields in Hammersmith from development. As kids play happily on the green, locals and environmentalists pitch battle with the Greater London Council over their decision to repurpose the site for housing and the building of a new West London College.

The film was one of four programmes in the 'Geography for the Young School Leaver' series, produced by the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) and intended for secondary school teaching purposes.
