The Edge of Seventeen
Kelly Fremon Craig’s coming-of-age comedy eschews quirkiness for genuine warmth, while boasting a hilarious supporting turn from Woody Harrelson.
Director: Kelly Fremon
Overview
Kelly Fremon Craig makes a name for herself with this hilarious and heartwarming coming-of-age comedy. Nadine (Academy Award Nominee Hailee Steinfeld) is a high school girl just trying to get through her teen years – but things become a bit rougher once her best friend, Krista, starts dating her older brother. Surrounded by adults (Kyra Sedgwick, Woody Harrelson) who don’t quite get the ordeal she is going through, Nadine tries to cope with the situation and in the process learns a lot more about herself. Shades of Clueless and Pretty in Pink surely come through, but The Edge of Seventeen is a unique teen charmer all by itself due to the wit and grace displayed by Craig.
James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment, Broadcast News) produces this Golden Globe-nominated film, and Craig truly announces herself as a perceptive, biting, and warm filmmaker with a great career ahead of her.
