              Overview

The life story of one of British rock’s most tragic figures – Ian Curtis of seminal Manchester band Joy Division – is stunningly rendered in majestic monochrome, in the debut film from famous photographer Anton Corbijn.

Detailing the singer’s struggles with epilepsy and attempts to reconcile his provincial existence with an emerging rock star status, Control is also an authentic recreation of a significant cultural moment - the birth of the Manchester music scene. With exceptional performances from newcomer Sam Riley as Curtis and Samantha Morton as his wife, and featuring incidental music by Curtis’ surviving New Order bandmates, Control is an essential music film and a haunting drama.
