Overview

In 1970s Glasgow, John McGill is a promising student who livers in the shadow of his elder brother, a feared member of a local gang. Despite John’s clear talents, he’s unable to stop himself being sucked into a life of mindless violence.

Written and directed by Peter Mullan (who also stars as John’s alcoholic father) Neds is a refreshing take on the gangland drama that’s notable for its rich vein of humour and unexpectedly surreal asides, setting it apart from the traditions of British social realism. With its keen eye for the music and fashion of Scotland in the 1970s, Neds is also something of a quintessential Glasgow film.
