Oh Boy!
Rock ‘n’ roll fuels Jack Good’s groundbreaking music TV show, with songs by Billy Fury, Cliff Richard and Marty Wilde.
Director: Rita Gillespie
Overview
Cliff Richard, Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Cuddly Dudley, The Vernons Girls, Cherry Wainer, Don Lang, Mike Preston, Dickie Pride and Lord Rockingham’s XI are just some of the performers who appear in this fast-moving, rockin’ and rollin’ final edition of Jack Good’s song-packed pop music programme, originally broadcast on ITV on 30 May 1959.
Jack Good began his groundbreaking work bringing teenage music to television as creator of the pop music weekly Six-Five Special for the BBC, but rankled at the corporation’s uptight attitude to his programme. He joined the opposition, ITV, where he was given a free hand to create this more dynamic music series, jam packed with punchy performances from start to finish, and broadcast live every week from the Hackney Empire. Attracting big name acts from the British and American pop music scene, it was a massive success. This was the last episode.
