Overview

London, 1950. Hester (Rachel Weisz), trapped in a passionless marriage to a stuffy High Court judge, embarks on a passionate erotic affair with an ex-RAF pilot. But the affair leaves her isolated and suicidal. Terence Rattigan's portrait of the turmoil of love - at a time when emotions are kept firmly buttoned up - gets a vivid and sensitive adaptation from Terence Davies.
