Funeral at the Front
Sombre and moving World War I newsreel story.
Overview
This sombre, self-explanatory report from the Western Front illustrates how, a year into the war, its human toll was manifest in media coverage and public life. By late 1915 the Topical Budget newsreel which ran this story had withdrawn its cameramen from the front, and will have bought this footage in from another (non-British) film company - then tailored it for the home front cinema audience.
